Maintenance Engineer - Kuwait

Role synopsis

The Maintenance Engineer is supporting the Kuwait Integrated Petrochemical Industrial Company (KIPIC) in start-up and commissioning of the greenfield Al-Zour Refinery, a 615 KBPD, six ARDS train refinery. In this role, the Maintenance Engineer will support the team and provide a safe and efficient work environment within the refinery.

Key accountabilities

The Maintenance Engineer’s objective is to provide safe and efficient execution, specification, and maintenance work within the refinery.
The Maintenance Engineer (ME) serves as the primary point of contact for area fixed equipment issues, including troubleshooting and routine maintenance construction packages. You will collaborate with the rest of the Maintenance & Reliability team to optimize mechanical integrity and mitigate any reliability issues. You will work closely with the Reliability Engineers to create the long term reliability plan and to incorporate key reliability objectives into routine maintenance work.

You will work to optimize the mechanical equipment and the reliability of the site, provide advice for activities associated with KIPIC Al Zour refinery reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) studies, spares analysis & equipment suitability, CMMS build, and maintenance scheduling. The scope of services accountable in the Maintenance area are:
  • Support the roll-out of the Reliability Framework and provide path forward/time-line for implementing and sustaining at the site.
  • Support the roll-out of the Turnaround Management Process and prepare the Organization setup for implementing the same.
  • Support the roll-out of the Equipment Spares Stocking Criteria/Policy and Criticality Matrix
  • Adhere to the maintenance / reliability KPI’s applied and monitored within BP, including any for future KIPIC monitoring of the performance.
  • Assist in rolling out the Risk and Reliability management philosophy, develop RCM / RBI / IPF procedures and conduct RCM for major process units.
  • Support the system to monitor and perform asset utilization and cost data analysis to develop and prioritize a list of reliability opportunities – top threats and bad actors.
  • Assist in developing training for reliability personnel and other KIPIC company personnel for reliability skill development and development of non-reliability staff.
  • Primary technical contact for day to day maintenance and operational issues related to fixed equipment reliability, unit availability and mechanical integrity.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting assistance of fixed equipment issues

Essential Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline, or equivalent, is required.

Essential experience and job requirements

  • 15 years of experience in refining, oil and gas, or petrochemicals
  • Strong influential relationship management skills
  • Strong Process and Personal Safety. Must be able to understand business issues and direct favorable outcomes.
  • Able to perform multiple tasks in parallel while managing shifting priorities.
  • Experience in influencing or leading successful implementation of work processes and systems
  • Has specific skills and knowledge of a broad range of refinery equipment, associated maintenance and reliability practices and test methods
  • Has familiarity with industry design and construction codes, standards, and regulatory requirements

Other Requirements (e.g. Travel, Location)

  • This job is based out of KIPIC offices in Kuwait city with on-site interface at Al Zour construction site. Travel may be required to KIPIC EPC / PMC offices in Europe and Asia. KIPIC Service contract is five (5) year duration. Role has a three (3) year minimum commitment (18 months in country and 18 months home country).
  • The final stage of this recruitment will involve meeting our partners for approval before being offered/accepting this role.

Desirable criteria & qualifications

  • Experience working at more than one operating facility.
  • Pre-commissioning or commissioning experience for greenfield manufacturing facility is preferred.
  • Cultural experience in the Middle East or Asia.
